Leaving Mesa Verde, it was only about an hour to the border...well, 4 borders to be exact. Unfortunately/thankfully, I did not have time to stop Four Corners, but it is in the wrong place anyway so no big loss.
I must say the change in geology from Colorado to Arizona is incredibly dramatic. The greens, blacks and whites of the mountians are replaced by the brilliant reds, oranges and yellows of the mesas.
My next stop was Canyon De Chelley National Monument. It is a steep canyon that is consdiered by the Navajo to be holy. It was once inhabited by their ancestors and there are still ruins in the canyon.
A note about the photos. If you are not sure why a photo made the cut, look for ruins. Sometimes they are obvious. Sometimes not as much.
